"Is the Prince's presence at the summit a publicity move? Yes. But that doesn't mean it's a poor decision," the expert remarked. "Cop has often been as much about so-called 'optics' as it is about talks. Prince William's announcement will likely encourage other leaders to participate, and will capture worldwide attention."

"I believe HRH is fully aware that by participating, he'll attract millions of attention to the event. In an time when global warming consequences are increasing, but media coverage is declining, anything that highlights the issue should be applauded."

Endorsement from Climate Organizations

An expert from an environmental thinktank said: "Full participation is needed – and every prominent figure like Prince William, present helping argue for the challenging job that is required, is likely a positive development."

"The monarch] was in his previous role when he participated in the Glasgow summit and pitched in to galvanise negotiations. I would argue it necessarily needs the prince and the king to participate."

This is the opportunity to establish more ambitious national commitments and the resources to implement them, especially for adaptation" to the consequences of the climate crisis.
