The athlete achieved her fastest time of 1:54.61 last year in the British capital.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m season with a win at the women-only Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The current Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a year affected by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was probably less of a struggle for me to compete and be motivated to perform," stated Hodgkinson.

"The environment at the event is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The women-only meet filled the stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is married to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the winners with their tiaras.

Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. won the mile, finishing in 4:17.78.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, secured the sprint double.
